Faith in the Home

Keys to Effective Faith in the Home “Practices”

Make them enjoyable!

Kids may not remember everything you say, but they will always cherish the times of laughter. It’s important for them to associate God and family times as being enjoyable. There are many activity suggestions to be found on the internet for possible ways to make faith building a fun time. Share your joys and your challenges! Pray for one another. Tell them why God is important in your life.

Keep them understandable!

The aim is to reinforce your values and beliefs in an easy-to-understand manner.

Let them participate!

Invite them to participate in the discussions. Give them a chance to lead. They will learn more when you involve their senses and emotions.

Go with the flow!

Try to set aside a specific time in your day/week. You do need to have a plan, but be careful not to become overly structured. Some of the best opportunities may come out of unplanned and unexpected moments.

Most importantly,

Celebrate your successes and don’t give up when things don’t go as planned. You don’t have to have all of the answers. It is okay to say, “I don’t know.” Search for answers together. Remember that God is forgiving and takes joy in our being present with him.
