Position: Director of Children’s Music

Beginning date: August 27, 2017

Duties:
  • Lead music weekly in each Sunday School age grouping. All grades currently sing in the same “choir.” We hope to develop these into a Middle School group and one for grades 2-5 to learn specific pieces that can be sung in services approximately once every three months.
  • Work additional hours for extra rehearsals near Christmas/Palm Sunday or other church appearances. This would also be expected during summer Vacation Bible School (summer 2018).
  • Attend Children, Youth, Family (CYF) staff meetings as needed.
  • Joe Grant, Director of Music, will be your immediate supervisor.

Tentative Weekly Schedule for Music with Sunday School classes:

(Final schedule will be contingent upon Session’s current reworking of worship/education offerings.)

10-15 min. Grade 2-Middle School: One or two songs (4-5 minutes) as part of education hour.

10-15 min. Pre-School music time

30 min. All ages: children’s choir rehearsal. Choir is one of two options for the kids.

It is our hope that the exposure to singing and music in the opening sessions will attract the students to stay for a more in-depth experience during the choir rehearsal. This will take recruiting and coordination. The music learned during choir will be performed during services on a quarterly schedule as possible.

Requirements:

  • Ability to lead children and young people in a Christian music experience.
  • Develop joy for singing and creative music making in a church setting.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrable skill in piano and/or guitar to accompany the groups in rehearsal.
  • Knowledge of and teaching ability with children’s voices.
  • Appropriate level of conducting/leadership skills for children’s ensembles.
  • Organization and communication skills to work with parents, children and church staff.

Possibilities:

  • Create a rotating schedule of parents and other adults, especially from the New American families, who would serve as monitors/teacher assistants during music time and support the teacher with student behavior, class transitions, and logistics during performances in worship services.
  • Create additional musical opportunities by teaching guitar class, drumming, other percussion, etc. as able.
Salary: $4,037.00
